THREE AREA COLLEGES GETTING $7.25M TO TRAIN WORKERS
Some news that will have a big impact on south Mississippi's metal trades industry was announced Wednesday.
Three colleges were awarded a total of $7.25 million in federal and state grant money. Schools receiving the funds are Jones County Junior College, Pearl River Community College and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. ...
This collaboration between the three colleges is part of Gov. Haley Barbour's state economic development plan called Momentum Mississippi.
"We know we have a huge metal trades industry on the Coast and even in the Jones County Junior College service area," says JCJC President Jesse Smith. "We have huge companies that are intensive in the metal trades. So when we put the proposal to the governor, he was so passionate about it and saw where it fit into his strategic plan."
