INSTITUTE, FILMMAKERS TO DOCUMENT BIRTHPLACE OF THE BLUES
The National Black Programming Consortium's 2007 New Media Institute, a professional development program for media-makers, has selected 28 filmmakers to come to Mississippi to document the birthplace of the blues.
The institute trains emerging and veteran filmmakers in the latest digital technologies as a way to produce, distribute and market their work. It was first launched last year in Boston at WGBH, a leading producer of PBS television and a major contributor to PBS.org. This year, the New Media Institute will be held Nov. 11-16 in Jackson and will focus on the creation of original projects about the rich culture and history of the Delta region and the impact of blues music in America.
The 28 filmmakers are coming from cities across the United States, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, New York, Houston, Denver, New Orleans and Chicago. Participants will travel along the corridors and roads on the Mississippi Blues Commission's Blues Trail and those leading to what will be the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center to produce projects that will be distributed in a variety of ways. ...
The agenda includes seminars, hands-on workshops, field production and screenings.
