NEW JOBS COMING
(TUPELO, Mississippi) –
A call center bringing 250 jobs to Tupelo within a year was announced Tuesday morning by Gov. Haley Barbour at news conference in the Advanced Education Center at the University of Mississippi/Tupelo campus.
Barbour worked with the Community Development Foundation and the Mississippi Development Authority to land the new business.
Building E at the Tupelo Furniture Market on North Coley Road is being reconfigured to house the enterprise, a business called NEW, which will handle business for DirecTV.
The initial work force, 250, could grow to 500 if the company's aspirations are met. NEW Customer Service Companies Inc. is a service-driven business headquartered in Virginia. It considered more than 230 sites worldwide before deciding on Tupelo.
Gov. Haley Barbour joined officials with the Community Development Foundation and community leaders on Tuesday in Tupelo for the official announcement.
Tupelo has six other call private-sector call center operations. NEW will be the largest, followed by Franklin Collections with approximately 200 employees, and CSA (formerly Central Services Association) with 117 workers. Waste Management previously announced opening of a call center in Tupelo, and about half of its expected 110 employees have been hired. ...
The NEW Tupelo center will provide good jobs almost certainly mostly for Mississippians - about $9.50 per hour, plus benefits - and help sustain long-term goals of a diversified regional work force.
