GOVERNOR BARBOUR VISITS NEW ALBANY'S HMC TECHNOLOGIES

(NEW ALBANY, Mississippi) - Governor Haley Barbour today toured HMC Technologies and talked with employees about workforce training and job growth in North Mississippi.

“We must continue to focus on improving job training so our people can get the skills they need and deserve.  A quality workforce is essential for job creation,” Barbour said.

“Thanks to Governor Barbour’s efforts to attract Toyota to Northeast Mississippi, we will now have the opportunity to develop major customers in our neighborhood, rather than selling and delivering in Michigan, Indiana or Tennessee,” said David McMillen, President and General Manager of HMC Technologies.  “Mississippi could not have recruited a manufacturer more appropriate to our market,” he added.

Under Governor Barbour’s administration, state support for job training  programs has doubled,  allowing more Mississippi workers to get the skills they need to succeed.    McMillen said, “With the improvements that Governor Barbour has put into effect, we are now experiencing a marked improvement in the technical skill sets of our employees that can be attributed to more thorough education and hands-on training and educational experiences.”

Since Governor Barbour took office in 2004, over 40,000 new jobs have been created.  By enacting comprehensive tort reform to end lawsuit abuse, reforming our job  training programs, and not raising anybody’s taxes, Governor Barbour has prepared Mississippi for more job growth and increased economic development.

HMC Technologies is an engineering “design-and-build” company located in New Albany.  HMC designs, develops, constructs and installs machinery and automation to support manufacturing in national and international industries.
