EAVES PLAN FOR THE COAST: HIGHER TAXES |
(BILOXI, Mississippi) -Tonight at Biloxi’s Saenger Theatre, Governor Haley Barbour demonstrated that the voters have a clear choice between his record of promises made and promises kept, versus his opponent’s campaign of no plan, increased taxes, and million dollar mistakes.
“Governor Barbour spoke about his record: 40,000 new jobs with record employment, innovative Coastal recovery policies, historic increases in education funding, a stronger healthcare environment through tort reform and Medicaid reform,” said Brian Perry, spokesman for Barbour for Governor.
John Arthur Eaves, Jr announced when speaking of his plan for state government, “"How would I pay for it? A 2% tax on these casinos."
“A few months ago, John Arthur Eaves came to the Coast and told the Sun Herald that he had no plan for Katrina recovery. Tonight, we learned he still has no plan except to raise taxes. Furthermore, he disagrees with how Coast communities have chosen to rebuild. The only thing John Arthur Eaves understands about state government is raising taxes to pay for government health care schemes,” Perry said.
Perry continued, “Governor Barbour has a four-year record of not raising taxes and spoke tonight about his plans for tax reductions in his second term. In the first debate of his campaign, John Arthur Eaves announced a tax increase plan. The choice is clear.”
The debate was sponsored by The Sun Herald & The University of Southern Mississippi as part of USM’s “Issues + Answers Lecture Series.”
