PROMINENT DEMOCRATS ENDORSE BARBOUR
Several prominent Democrats are crossing party lines to support Republican Governor Haley Barbour.
Among those backing the governor's bid for a second term are former Governor Bill Waller, former Lieutenant Governor Brad Dye and former U.S. Congressman Mike Espy.
Espy served as Agriculture Secretary during President Bill Clinton's first term. He says he and Barbour share Yazoo City as a hometown and have known each other for years.
"We have to do what's best for Mississippi," Espy said. "In this case it has to be the person above the party, so I'm stepping outside partisan boundaries, and I'm telling you I really intend to vote for Haley Barbour for governor."
"For the next four years, Marsha and I will do everything to earn this endorsement and respect the fact you shared your reputation with us," Barbour responded.
